Breeding your own food has many benefits. But the two major ones are: All you food can be feed on a diet that you know is healthy and if the food your feeding to your animals is healthy the you animals will be healthy. Secondly you are going to save LOTS of money.

WOODIES

Woodies or wood cockroaches are a great food source and make up the majority of my animals diet. My woodies are fed chicken feed as a staple and get all house scraps for moisture. When I say all I mean EVERYTHING from steak to spaghetti, salad, vege's, chocolate cake, anything at all as long as its not to wet. I figue this gives the woodies a wide range of viatims and minerals with is then eaten my your lizards.  The only thing I don't feed them is Avocado and other noxious things for lizards as Most nutrients they eat go down into your lizards.

Woodies are great also because they breed like little machines. It takes about 2 months to go from a baby woodie to an adult and each woodie will live about a year.

There is downsides to woodies as well: They stink a little bit and its best to not have them in the house. If you have garage its a good idea to keep em out there. Or in a herp room. They need to be kept in a tub/tank with floun painted around it. (this stops em from climbing out)

Setting up: To set up all I do is grab 5-6 big egg cartons place them at one end. The cover the other end in chicken food. Then place vege's and house scraps on top of chicken food when needed. During winter i supply a heat mat that runs underneath the tub (under the cartons). For the lid I just cut out a hold and silicon on some mesh.  The white stuff around the tops of the tubs is floun.
